About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The third album from Toto, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour makes them a household name throughout the world.
After a gap of couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. It marks a step away from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This album was their first to go platinum in North America.
During the recording process for the fifth album, the group loses its manager and is faced with financial problems. They decide to change their name and record a new album with a new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, is now replacing Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman and provides the band with a much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band released Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993. This includes a cover version of Weezer’s song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's coverage of Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest along with keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.
